According to John C’s Civil War file -he was captured at Ft. Pulaski on April 1, 1862 and was exchanged at Aikens Landing, Virginia on August 5, 1862. The orphaned children (7) of John and Lucinda were placed with various families in Tallapoosa County, AL according to the 1870 census. Eventually, they all made their way to Texas. Most of them went on to settle in Oklahoma and one sister went on to California.
